Green and Clean Event by our own Fourth Ward Green Team!
A volunteer force of 45 strong came out Saturday morning and contributed to “Green & Clean” – the Fourth Ward event intended to elevate the beauty and emphasize a sense of community. The volunteers picked up trash and recycling across the Fourth Ward. The event was chaired by Billy Shugart of Keller Williams and Kristen Witte, a Fifth & Poplar community builder. It was supported both in sweat equity and resources by the Fourth Ward Board – members Sarah Kennard and Walter Sanders both present to contribute and acknowledge the volunteers. Special guests included Karen Howard, Volunteer Services of Parks & Rec for Mecklenburg County. Supplies and equipment were provided by the city – the “Keep Charlotte Beautiful” team.
Billy and Kristen believe the nature of this experience is particularly important in these times – anything we can do to collectively serve the community, as well as create a sense of pride in Uptown Charlotte, is going to strengthen our fabric and connection. We have a beautiful city and we want to remind people with our energy that we all play a role keeping it a desirable, “Green & Clean” destination.
The team ended their work by gathering at the beautiful Grand Bohemian garden, whose recent delayed opening came with many cheers in a challenging time for the hospitality business.
The team plans to hold a spring “Green & Clean” experience and would like to broaden the scope further in Uptown, bringing others into the community building network to make a difference in Charlotte. Community service is a movement that brings positive energy, reminds us of our personal accountability, benefiting the neighborhood and Charlotte as a whole.
