Construction is starting on Phase 2 of the CycleLink Projet in Uptown Charlotte. The project alignment stretches east-west across Uptown, connecting the Irwin/Stewart Creek Greenways on the west to the Little Sugar Creek Greenway/Cross Charlotte Trail on the east.
Phase 1 — a portion of the project alignment on 6th Street between McDowell Street and the Rail Trail — is already in place in a temporary configuration. Phase 2 will extend and upgrade that existing bikeway with new markings and signage and a concrete barrier between the cycle track and vehicular lanes. The Phase 1 portion will be closed while the upgrades are completed.
This project will connect 40 miles of bike network into the center city. It’s also a key segment of the larger Uptown CycleLink project, a planned network of separated bike lanes that will enable safe and comfortable bicycle commuting in a transformative new way. It is a critical focus of Charlotte’s effort to create an “AAA” (all ages and abilities) bike network and transform Charlotte into a world-class bicycle city.
