Safety Updates

Violation Updates

We often hear reservations expressed by neighbors about calling 911. People don’t want to “waste police time”,  “don’t want to get involved”, wonder “whether it is really criminal activity afoot”, etc. These excuses compromise the safety of the neighborhood. If you see something that looks or feels suspicious to you, drop what you are doing and call 911! Police appreciate neighbor involvement and it can also justify increasing our patrols later on.

There is an ongoing effort to make our Kids Park on 9th Street safer. Please pay extra attention to the 9th Street Children’s’ Playground as it is attracting vagrants. If you see anything that looks suspicious, PLEASE CONTACT 911 IMMEDIATELY! Residents are strongly encouraged to report ANY suspicious activity by call 911 immediately. If an arrest is made, please email Chris Connelly at  so that he can monitor the case in the court system.

NEXTDOOR

The CMPD is now working with Nextdoor to provide crime and safety information to all neighborhoods across the city.  Nextdoor provides free private social networks for neighborhoods that help foster neighbor-to-neighbor communications and facilitates virtual neighborhood watch. Check out the Nextdoor site for Fourth Ward at

TWITTER

The CMPD Central Division has taken over control of the @CMPD_uptown Twitter account. If you have a Twitter account, please follow them for crime trends, safety tips, heads up about events and festivals uptown, and general information related to your officers working in the uptown area!

Street Lighting

There are many streetlights out in Fourth Ward. These lights can make the difference in neighborhood safety or neighborhood danger. It’s easy to report the outages to Duke. Just go on line and report them at the website below. It’s helpful to mark them with some colored tape so they are easy for the crews to locate. If they are not fixed within a couple of weeks, email Chris Connelly at cconnelly@connellydefense.com. Please do not email him initially about the outage, ONLY if Duke has not followed through. Chris does not own a ladder so he can’t fix the light himself!
